It’s Cold Outside: Workout Motivation At Home

My favorite things to do for working out is walking and running. Whether it’s for leisure or fitness, walking is so therapeutic not just physically, but also mentally. When you are behind a desk or computer screen all day it’s great to step outside and walk, think, and clear your head.

Running is a different animal. It’s also relaxing, but in a different way. I never love to start running, but every time that I finish I always feel good abut what I accomplished.

Leg day is always on the bottom of peoples workout routines. No one loves leg day, but if it involves running, biking, or walking then I am all for it. Another leg exercise I like doing is the elliptical trainer. It’s a lower impact form of running and perfect for the in between days of running. I do enjoy mixing in elliptical and biking between runs because I still get high intensity cardio with a lower impact for recovery.

Living in Montana it get cold. Really cold. Running and walking outdoors becomes harder and more dangerous because of black ice. What does that leave me to do? Treadmill? No, as much as I love to run I can not run on treadmill.

I would love to get a stationary bike or elliptical but at the time its not in the budget.

Peloton looks cool for bikers. But again. Expensive.

How do you stay fit during the cold months of the year with no equipment and/or the gyms are closed because of COVID-19?

Enter the Nike Fitness Trainer App.

It has workouts for no or little equipment and ranges from beginner up to athlete. It’s an app that lets you do it all in the comfort of your home and at the speed and pace you would like. I have enjoyed using it when it’s too cold to go outside or on my off days after a run. I use it for mostly core and strength training.

Another thing I am looking forward to checking out is Apple’s new fitness+subscription. In the days of isolation and cold weather, having a fitness app ecosystem that is motivating and accommodating might be worth checking out. Not to mention will wrk seamlessly with your Apple Watch.

Stay motivated and stay healthy.
